A cup of Alphabet soup that a mother could love!

"N" is our letter today
"Do you have what you Need? N is for NEED!! When you look around you do you see a lot of people having what they need? Often times they are striving to be more successful when what they need is right in front of them. It is not the things in our lives that make us secure . It is the love in our lives that we want the most. Given the choice between the two which would you choose? When it is all said and done what can we do with our lives that will give us the most happiness and satisfaction? Is it not the relationships we form along the way? The squeeze of the hand by a loved one, the hug of a child who loves us unconditionally, the gaze across the room from one who makes our heart race. Sitting quietly next to a dear friend with no need to even talk because we just enjoy each others quiet company-- on the other hand having a virtual gab fest with a close friend and giggling like a couple of schoolkids. The secret is not in having what you need but needing what you have. Being grateful for what you have and having that in your life that leads to more of needing what you have. Possesions come and go. The love in our lives is a precious, precious thing. So NEED what you have---and feel a real sense of satisfaction."

I can really relate to this entry. Understanding the HUGE difference between NEED vs WANT is a thing that if you grasp it completely can solve most of the problems in life--in all areas, not just weight related.

I tell my children all the time "you don't NEED _____, you WANT it".

If we went without the things in life that we WANT, or atleast most of them and learned to be happy and content when we have what we NEED, we would be much better off!

No one "NEEDS" a Snikcers bar, Pepsi or pizza--we WANT it. No one "NEEDS" a bowl of icecream, a bag of chips or cookies--we WANT it.

However, we NEED whole grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables and water; yet often times we go without and get the things we WANT instead.

What happens to a kid if you forgo some of the things they NEED (like brushing their teeth) and give them what they WANT (candy)?

Their teeth rot.

What if you go without the healthful foods that you NEED and rather consume the foods that you WANT?

Your body gains weight and you get "fat".

Ask yourself this ONE simple question before you consume ANYTHING: "Do I WANT this or do I NEED this?"

If you listen to yourself truthfully, you are going to realize your dreams and goals.
